The Venerable Abbot Shi Yongxin of the renowned China Songhan Shaolin Temple will bless the Shaolin Temple Culture Center in Herndon, Virginia established by his disciple Master Shi Yanran of Shaolin Temple USA. This special event will take place on Wednesday, May 25, 2011 at 5:00 pm. Shaolin Temple, an ancient Buddhist Monastery established in 495 AD, was the birth place of Chinese Chan Buddhism, Shaolin Kung Fu (martial arts) and Shaolin Medicine.
Besides advising on the center’s work in promoting Chan Buddhism and Shaolin culture in America, the Venerable Abbot will also preach to students and participants of the event. Four Shaolin Temple Masters who accompany the Abbot on this visit will give talks on Chan Buddhism, Shaolin Kung Fu and Shaolin Medicine. The Center’s students and Sifus will present a program of Shaolin Kung Fu.

The Herndon center is the third Shaolin Temple Culture Center established by Shaolin Temple USA in 2007, a nonprofit, charitable organization with US federal class 501(c)(3) tax-exempt status, by Master Shi Yanran, a 34th generation Buddhist Monk of Songshan Shaolin Temple. Its mission is to carry on and share the over 1,500-year profound Shaolin legacy with the American people. Serving as Executive Director, Master Yanran has since established 3 Shaolin Temple Culture Centers in San Francisco, Fremont, California and Herndon, Virginia, to promote Shaolin culture through classes, performances, Chan lectures and cultural events. To date, Shaolin Temple USA has enrolled over 800 students of diverse backgrounds. In March 2009, Shaolin Temple USA produced the 6-day, multiple-city cultural event to celebrate “China Songshan Shaolin Temple Day” in Northern California. Since January 2011, Shaolin Temple USA has been offering Shaolin Kung Fu classes at Stanford University under the School of Medicine's Health Improvement Program (HIP).
